  1. Offline support

Support offline document / draft creation, offline navigation, and offline writing (with graceful syncing that works well when collaborating).

  2. Chapter Option

We can create drafts of the main work, but there's no option to split a single, larger work into chapters (that we can then make drafts of) so that we can work and edit chapter-by-chapter.

  3. Pages, page numbers, margins, and print preview

I would love to have the concept of pages in Ellipsus. When editing a big work, I want to refer to its page numberβ€”it makes it easier to find a passage and pick up where you left off. When exporting into PDF and printing my work, I want to adjust the margins and preview it before exportingβ€”this saves me time and gives me control over the layout (we love aesthetics, right?).

  4. Embedded images

It would be really nice to be able to embed images in the documents. I do a lot of technical writing for our company blog and we often use images to help illustrate ideas we are trying to explain

  6. No restrictions on the content writers can save and share with Ellipsus

Google Docs look to be restricting what content can be added or shared from its platform. An author (see link below) had her account locked (and is under review about whether she will get it back) because her writing contained sexually explicit content. A written guarantee in the T&Cs that writers will not be penalised due to their writing containing explicit themes (sex, trauama, abuse, violence etc) would make writers feel a lot safer about using an online tool like this. https://www.instagram.com/sloan_spencer_author/p/C48JN_TrvxO/?img_index=1

  7. Laptop/PC app

I (and many writers I know) appreciate having a native PC app. For me, it allows me to work without having reliable internet and push/share changes once I am back online. It also is beneficial to have an app that lives in my toolbar that I can open that doesn't have the option for me to get sidetracked by search windows I'd forgotten about, impulsive whims, etc. It creates a more seamless work experience all around.

  8. Native mobile app

I primarily write in the Google Docs App on mobile/tablet, so that’s the kind of experience I’d be looking for in a substitute.I write almost every day and collaborate frequently with an editor and would really like to find an alternative to google.I was hoping this would be it, but without a robust mobile option, I just don’t know if this will be the best fit.

  10. Comment-only permissions

An option to share a document with another user with strictly commenting permissions rather than commenting and editing permissions would be awesome.

  11. Word Count Goal Setting

Okay, so I know this might sound a little silly, but with everyone jumping ship on the "official" NaNoWriMo people and the website potentially not long for this world, having some place to have some sort of goal setter (where it keeps track of word counts, tallies per day progress, etc etc) would be really amazing. I know it's not like a priority or anything, I just feel like it's something that really helps me stay motivated to continue writing at more regular rates as a visual person being able to see how much I've done. Edit : Mainly thought of this now as I basically stress test the nano system to see all the bugs in it that annoy me, please make sure that we can log negative numbers for days when we edit? Because as far as I can tell, Nano doesn't actually let you subtract from your total, only add.

  12. Enabling password login

Hi Ellipsis team, I think it would be a great option to enable the ability to set a password. I find it a little arduous having to log in with a code sent to my email every time. This is the best writing software I have used for my needs so it would be great to see this feature added. Keep up the good work!

  13. Timeline

Here's a wild idea, what if there's a way to create a timeline builder feature for the behind-the-scenes aspects of plotting? Could be fun to help with the grander aspects of worldbuilding. Obviously, it's kind of out there, but it could be really fun to explore playing with, IMO.

  14. Make it crystal clear Ellipsus does not access or use your data in any way

The reason I looked for any alternative at all is because it's becoming abundantly clear Google has no qualms about scraping Google Docs, even if it's "anonymized" or whatever else. It seems pretty clear from Ellipsus TOS that data submitted by the user belongs to the user and won't be used by anybody else, but I think it should be made abundantly clear in marketing, in the website itself, etc. If there's a reason people will leave the incredibly comfortable (and free) Google Docs, this is it - knowing their data is not going to be used for marketing, AI training, etc.

  15. Footnotes & citations

Footnotes and/or endnotes are super useful, whether you're writing an academic paper or writing fiction with fantasy elements that need notating.
