  1. Chapter Option

We can create drafts of the main work, but there's no option to split a single, larger work into chapters (that we can then make drafts of) so that we can work and edit chapter-by-chapter.

  3. Comment-only permissions

An option to share a document with another user with strictly commenting permissions rather than commenting and editing permissions would be awesome.

  4. Multiple Fonts Within A Document

In my writing, I use a lot of in-universe letters, historical documents, and a ton of other things. It helps my brain a lot to have them in a separate font than the character's thoughts, as well as a separate paragraph. However, I haven't been able to use more than one font in a document. Whenever I try to change just one paragraph, the whole thing changes. It would be great if, like changes in color or italics, font was based on the character and not the document.

  5. Pages, page numbers, margins, and print preview

I would love to have the concept of pages in Ellipsus. When editing a big work, I want to refer to its page numberβ€”it makes it easier to find a passage and pick up where you left off. When exporting into PDF and printing my work, I want to adjust the margins and preview it before exportingβ€”this saves me time and gives me control over the layout (we love aesthetics, right?).

  6. Native mobile app

I primarily write in the Google Docs App on mobile/tablet, so that’s the kind of experience I’d be looking for in a substitute.I write almost every day and collaborate frequently with an editor and would really like to find an alternative to google.I was hoping this would be it, but without a robust mobile option, I just don’t know if this will be the best fit.

  7. Offline support

Support offline document / draft creation, offline navigation, and offline writing (with graceful syncing that works well when collaborating).

  8. Embedded images

It would be really nice to be able to embed images in the documents. I do a lot of technical writing for our company blog and we often use images to help illustrate ideas we are trying to explain

  9. Laptop/PC app

I (and many writers I know) appreciate having a native PC app. For me, it allows me to work without having reliable internet and push/share changes once I am back online. It also is beneficial to have an app that lives in my toolbar that I can open that doesn't have the option for me to get sidetracked by search windows I'd forgotten about, impulsive whims, etc. It creates a more seamless work experience all around.

  10. Enabling password login

Hi Ellipsis team, I think it would be a great option to enable the ability to set a password. I find it a little arduous having to log in with a code sent to my email every time. This is the best writing software I have used for my needs so it would be great to see this feature added. Keep up the good work!

  11. Timeline

Here's a wild idea, what if there's a way to create a timeline builder feature for the behind-the-scenes aspects of plotting? Could be fun to help with the grander aspects of worldbuilding. Obviously, it's kind of out there, but it could be really fun to explore playing with, IMO.

  12. Selective merge

When presented with the merge screen with many differences, it may be useful to have a βœ… / ❌ interface (like gdocs) to accept or refuse specific changes

  13. Accents (Γ‘, Γ©, etc) Support and/or Substitution List

I write a lot in Spanish, and something that drives me nuts after switching from Mac to PC is how hard it is to write words like MamΓ‘. Currently, the only way I can write that word with the accent in Ellipsus is by copy and pasting it from another document (I can't even type Γ‘ in this textbox, even when I do the proper command for PC). Support for that would be huge. Or having a substitution list, where I can write "Mama" and it automatically gets changed to "MamΓ‘", which is what I currently use with Google Docs.

  14. Highlighter

A highlighter, both for general highlighting, and a way to share the highlighted text in chat so that collaborators can discuss about said highlighted text.

  15. A Plot Board

So, This is for those authors who would like to plot their stories out, perhaps on Ellipsus. Perhaps sometime in the far future, (this is definitely not an immediate thing) you could make a board where authors could connect things a la thumbtacks and string on a conspiracy board-style. Think like Jamboards in a way, but it would be much better than Jamboards in that there would be ways for an author or authors could plan notes and connections between characters and plot ideas. I know I've been looking for something akin to this for a long while, but focused on plotting, while Jamboards is not really good for that. It may be way out of the realm of what Ellipsus can or should do, but it could be something fun too.
